Style Spotlight: 70s Neo-Victorian

While Neo-Victorian makes us think of a style borrowed from the 19th century, it was in fact its own distinct fashion trend. Begun by none other than that notorious fashion icon Christian Dior in the late 1940s, his "new look" featuring cinched waists and sloped shoulders were designed to be "moulded upon the curves of the feminine body."

Reaching the mainstream consumers by the late 1960s, a soft feminine style highlighted by poof sleeves and lace trimmings defined the look.

Today, our obsession with 70s Neo-Victorian inspired my Victorian Vixen Earrings - cameo style dangles made from period-appropriate materials perfect for your interpretation of this sassy style!

Let's try this again...

Glamourpuss is not a techie girl. She still pens notes on the backs of coffee stained junk mail and carries grocery lists written on random scraps of paper. But the world wants new information- and now! So here I am, once again, attempting to share the nutty little notions that result in Glamourpuss Creations Vintage Modern Jewelry.

Winter is in full throttle here in Boston...I wonder if I'll ever see my backyard again. But the promise of Spring shows and the undertaking of building a new website keeps me occupied.

Lots of new designs are in the are a few to keep you warm

Weddings and Shows, Weddings and Shows!

It's been a pretty busy Spring for Glamourpuss Creations. I participated in the fantastic SoWa Open Market Opening Weekend and the Providence Rock and Roll Yard Sale with great success but most importantly - my little sister got married!

Offering to make the flower arrangements, I had a fabulous time picking just the blooms from Fifty Flowers and a collecting vintage hobnail and milk glass vases to complete the look. It was a spectacular day for my whole family and the bride and groom couldn't have been more stunning.

Just finding time to work on some new pieces the past few days. The perfect combination of edgy and romantic has been inspiring me these days.

Know your fashion history....

What I love most about making vintage jewelry are the little histories that go along with each piece: a color, pattern or style that speaks of another era, given new life in a modern design.

Lots of fashion is informed by pop culture and, in the 60s, it was much the same. When I found these Egyptian Revival pendants, I was reminded that the style, which originated in the 1920s, was brought back by Elizabeth Taylor's epic 1963 performance in the film Cleopatra. Oh the sultry shades and luxurious fabrics!

Inspired by the rich colors and dramatic look of Cleopatra, my Siam Scroll Earrings will make you feel like a queen!

Glamourpuss joins the blogging world!

After *many* failed attempts at setting up a lovely blog, my little sis Amy (of ABCowls) gave a much needed hand and - voila!- here it is!

Winter is a great time to explore some new show opportunities and research the latest in social networking. I came across this great article on the 18 best social shopping sites here:
Lots of great places to find and share the latest styles!

And, of course, thoughts of Spring are creeping slowly to mind. Here are some new pieces for the upcoming season I really loved making. Lots more to come!
